Healing and settling
- Cromwell wanted a settlement - a traditional government that would win the support of the Political Nation
- He abandoned the Oath of Engagement, stressed his commitment to social hierarchy and stated his support for property ownership
- He acted in a way similar to a monarch - he was called 'Your Highness' and patronised artists, writers and musicians
