Classification of Offences

Summary offences: These are the most minor offence and is heard in the Magistrates Courts alone without a jury trial.

Some offences include:

  • Disorderly conduct
  • Assult (the fear of violence)
  • Battery
  • Property Damage

Triable- either way- offences: These are offences that can be tried as either summary or indictable offences These are held in both the Magistrates and the Crown Court depending on the severity

Some offences include:

  • Theft
  • Fraud
  • s 20 GBH
