Ok, here are some annotations from my copy of Cousin Kate by Rossetti. Hope this is helpful!

I was a cottage maiden:   Negative opening-Past tense, no longor a virgin-Narrator not named, embarrassed of how she has fallen from grace.

Hardened by sun and air: Could be used as irony..I don't know...maybe because her outer skin was hard but she was easily fooled and enticed by the lord.

Contented with my cottage mates: Happy with her life- tone of voice could be regretful and longing for her…
