Why they one in 1951

Electroal sytem failed to work in labours favour. Labour was weak, due to increased defense spending for Korea, which lead to cuts elsewhere. Conservatives were stronger, with strong policies like 300,000 houses per year, and they were more united. Also, the sympathy for socailsim had run out, as by 1951 the USSR were considered enemies in the cold war. 

Social Changes

Unemployment peaked at 500,000. real wages grew from 8 to 18 pounds. Home ownership went from 25 to 44 percent. increased social mobilty. 6,000 more schools were built.
