Conformity: Asch's research

Procedure
Asch tested conformity by showing participants a standard line and three comparison lines, one of which was clearly the same length as the standard and the other two clearly not. The participants were asked which of the three lines matched the standard. The participants were 132 male American undergraduates and each participant was tested individually with a group of 6-8 confederates. 

Findings
The naive participant gave a wrong answer 36.8% of the time. 25% of participants did not conform on any task - 75% of participants conformed at least once. When interviewed after, most participants said they had conformed to avoid social rejection
