Conflict and Tension.

Origins and Outbreak of War:

Hitler aims:In his rise to power, Hitler made a number of promises of things. These included:

• Rearmament

• Anschluss
• Unite Volksdeutshe
• Destroy communism and Jews.

Anglo-German Naval Agreement:

This was signed between Germny and Britian and it allowed Germany to build up there Navy to 35% of the size of the British navy. Britian thought they could control German naval expansion by doing this. It seamed to go against the Stresa Front.

Stresa Front:

Concerned about German Rearmament, Briatin,France and Italy agreed to sign it. They all agreed to stand united to maintain peace in Europe and to defend Austrian independence.

German Rearmament:

Previously Hitler had withdrew Germany from the Leagues Disarmament conference and in March 1935, he brought in Military Conscription which expanded his army to one million men and built air force, both of which broke the Treaty of Versailles.

The Saar:

After the failed attempt to take Austria, Hitler needed a victory. He turned his attention to the Saar, which is a rich area in Coal which had been taken from Germany in the TOV and handed over to the LON for 15 years.…
