The Success of Insects

Insects are very numerous and diverse and this is mainly because they undergo metamorphosis.

Metamorphosis has a resistant stage - the eggs. This allows eggs to survive unfavourable conditions and only hatch once conditions are favourable.

Incomplete Metamorphosis

Is shown by grasshoppers and locusts.

The sexually mature adult lays eggs which then hatch into nymphs  when conditions are favourable.
