How can psychologists' understanding of memory help patients with dementia?

Dementia is a disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease/injury. It includes memory disorders, personality changes and impaired reasonin. Currently there are 850,000 people in the UK with dementia and it is predicted to rise above 1 million by 2025. The current death rate for dementia is 1 in 3 people over 65.
