There is Research evidence that supports each of Kohlberg's stree stages. Gender Labelling: Found out that two year olds were 76% correct in identifiying their sex whereas three year olds were 90% correct. This shows an increase in ablitiy to label themselves, as predicted by kohlberg's theory. Gender stablity: An interviewer asked young children questions such as 'When you were a baby, were you a little boy or a little girl?' and 'When you are older are you going to be mummy or daddy?'The answers given by the children showed that they didn not recognise that these traits were stable over time until they were three or four years old, as Kohlberg predicted. Gender constancy: Questions were asked to little children such as: 'If you played football would you be a boy or a girl?' and 'Could you be a boy/girl if you wanted to be?' They found that children who scored high on both stability and constancy showed greater intrest in same-sex models. This suggests as Kohlberg predicted, that an increase sense of constancy leads children to pay more attention to gender-appropriate models, furthering gender development.
