Based on the theory that how we think affects how we feel which affects our behaviour.

Stage One-

The patient is asked to talk about their symptoms. They explain what they are feeling, and why they think they are feeling this way.

Stage Two-

The patient and therapist identify any irrational/negative thoughts. They then challenge these, and replace with more rational/positive thoughts.

Stage Three-

CBT is a series of sessions. Between sessions, the patient is asked to practice these rational ways of thinking and to note down or remember their experiences and oitcomes with it to discuss at the next session.
