Schizophrenia (sz) is a major mental illness and is a break between emotion and thinking involving psychotic symtoms and other emotional impairments with speech and behavioural abnormalities. There are 2 main diagnostic manuals:
- DSM: used in America, symptoms need to be there for 1 month before diagnosis, has 5 sub-types of sz.
- ICD-10: used in Europe, symptoms need to be there for 6 months before diagnosis, has 7 sub-types of sz - has simple sz and post-sz depression too.
