Classification
Scientists look at all the characteristics of organisms just to decide how to sort them into seperate groups. Organisms that have many characteristics in common are grouped together as a Species. Species that share many characteristics are grouped together as a Genus (Pl. Genera). Genera that share many characteristics are grouped together as a Family. This continues until you get to the level of Kingdom.
