Outline Gottesman's research:
Gottesman studied the genetic basis for schizophrenia and found that monozygotic twins have a 48% concordance rate of schizophrenia, while dizygotic twins have a concordance rate of 17%. This suggests that while there is a genetic basis for schizophrenia, there is also evidence that the environment also plays a role in the development of schizophrenia.
Outline Ripkes' research:
Ripkes found that there was no single gene that was responsible for schizophrenia, and instead found a collection of 108 genes that could be responsible for the development of schizophrenia. The majority of these genes are linked to dopamine sensitivity.
