Cinical Characteristics of Schizophrenia-
To diagnose any mental illness, a doctor will consult a classification system, listing the clinical characteristics needed for a diagnonis to be made.
Listing an agreed set of symptoms = increase the reliability of diagnosis and reduces psychiatrist subjectivity.
(Most common CS in the UK is the DSM V) - In this CS, it distinguishes between positive and negative symptoms.
Positive- Symptoms are added. A person did not have before the illness (eg. delusions)
Negative - Symptoms have made the patient lose something. (eg. loss of emotion, speech)
