The first cinema known in London was in Balham in 1907. The first moves were in black and white and silent. Cinemas had a piano player who played music which fit the scene. A famous silent movie star is Charlie Chaplin who starred in slapstick comedy movies. Films with sound were called ‘Talkies’ and the first was The Jazz Singer in 1927.
