Cell division and inheritance

Each nucleus of each cell in the human body there are 46 chromosomes and they are arranged in 23 pairs. However, gametes only have 23 because they will combine in reproduction to make 46 and this is called a zygote.

Sex Chromosomes

Males have an X and a Y sex chromosomes but females have two X chromosomes. Off spring inherit one sex chromosome from the mother and one from the father. The gender of the off spring depends on whether the ovum is fertilised by a Y or an X chromosome.

Cell division

Mitosis is aseual reproduction. This occurs for growth and repair.

Meiosis is sexual reproduction and it occurs in the testes and the overies.The cells in these organs devide to produce gametes.

Fertilisation

In fertilisation, one chromosome from each parent and a single body cell with new pairs of chromosomes is formed.
