Christian Humanism
- born out of the Italian renaissance (rebirth of learning)
- the name given to a group of European scholars who studied and taught the humanities (e.g. history, rhetoric etc.)
- they made the classical world their basis and outlook
- did not all believe the same things, but came to their own conclusions by similar means
Humanist ideas:
- dignity of Man
- believed Man was the most noble of creatures
- wanted to discover the wonders of human achievement by studying history
- preferred the active to the contemplative life
