The aftermath of the civil war of 1946-49

- The ending of the civil war placed the communists in a favourable position

- Bringing an end to the years of conflic generated goodwill to the communists, especially from the peasanrty

- The communists extended their areas under their control: this proved they were capable to effective organisation than the nationalists, which gave communism a cause for optimism in 1949
