Childhood Changes

?

Aries-  Children used to be seen as little adults who went to work and had equal rights along with the adults, which remained until 19th century. In the 19th century, infant mortality begun to decrease due to the improvement of health care and diet. Middle Class started to change their views and ways towards the children. However, working class carried on in the same way due to their poverty and need of extra income for survival.

Aries and Shorter-  Children are more valued, better cared for, protected, educated and have better health and rights. Children are protected from harm and exploitation by laws against child abuse and child labour. The family has become child-centered (Young and Willmott) with parents investing a great deal in their children emotionally and financially.

Gittins-Inequalities between adults and children are due to age patriarchy of adult domination to keep children subordinate through exercising control over children's time and bodies as well as child
