Chi square

  • Used when independent measures design and nominal data
  • Chi squared answer has to be smaller than the critical value

\chi^{2}=\sum \frac{\left({O}<em>{i}-E</em>{i}\right)^{2}}{E_{i}}

  • O = observed frequency
  • E = expected frequency
  • Ignore minuses throughout working out

Step 1: Calculate the totals of the table

  • Total of each row
  • Total of each column
  • Add the totals of each column together

Step 2: Label each original cell with letters 

Step 3: Calculate the expected frequency

Total of a row from named cell X Total
