Atoms are building blocks of everything, they're are amazingly tiny and you can only see them with an incredibly powerful microscope.

Atoms have a small nucleus surrounded by electrons.

the nucleus is the middle of the atom, it contains protons and neutrons. Almost the whole mass of an atom is concentrated in the nucleus, but size wise its tiny compared to the atom as a whole.
