The main types of giant structures are metals, ionic solids, polymers, ceramics, pottery and glasses. All of these materials are solids that depend for their properties on 3 types of bonding metallic ionic and covalent. For each type of boding the strength of the bond depends on the electrostatic attractions between positive and negative bonding. Closenpacking allows atoms in one layer to get as close as possible to atoms in the next layer. Delocalised electrons are bonding electrons which arent fixed between 2 atoms in a bond theyre free to move and are shared by several/many more atoms

Metalic bnding is the strong attraction between a lattice of positive ions and a sea of delocalised electrons.

Metals have high densities
