Atoms are made up of electrons surrounding a nucleus that contains protons and neutrons.

Protons: Relative charge of +1
Neutrons: Neutral
Electrons: Relative charge of -1
Atomic number of an atom: the number of protons it has
Element: a substance that is made of only one atom
