In at the top goes limestone, iron ore, coke
limestone=calcium carbonate
iron ore=iron oxide
coke=carbon

500 degrees

Then 500 degrees is near the top of the furnace. At 500 degrees Carbon Monoxide takes oxygen from the ore to leave iron.
