electrolysis

Electrolysis simply means to split up with electricity.

During electrolysis, positive ions in the electrode move towards the cathode (negative electrode) and gain electrons (because they are reduced). The negative ions in the electrolyte will move towards the anode (positive electrode) and lose electrons (because they are oxidised). This createsa flow of charge through the electrolyte as ions travel to the electrodes. As ions lose or gain electrons, they form the uncharged element and are discharged from the electrolyte. An electrolyte is just a liquid or a solution that can conduct electricity. An electrode is a solid that
