The Haber process is an important industrial process where Nitrogen and Hydrogen are combined to produce ammonia. Ammonia is a colourless and smelly gas. It is used to make fertilisers, explosives, dyes, household cleaners, nylon and nitric acid. Ammonia can react with nitric acid to make ammonium nitrate; this is used by farmers in fertilisers.

Hydrogen is obtained by reacting methane with steam. The by-product of this reaction is Carbon Monoxide. If not methane, any other hydrocarbon (obtained from cracking crude oil), can be reacted with steam and will still produce hydrogen. Nitrogen is taken from the hair.
