Collision Theory:

The rate of reaction measures the amount of product made in a specific time.

The rate of reaction can be measured in:

  • g/s or g/min for mass changes.
  • cm cubed/s or cm cubed/min for volume changes.

The rate of reaction can be increased by:

  • Raising the temperature
  • increasing the concentration (of liquids)
  • increasing the pressure (of gases)

Rate of Reaction Experiments:

Chemical reactions stop when one of the reactants is used up. The amount of product formed depends on the amount of reactant used.

The limiting reactant is the one that is used up by the end of the reaction.
