Ionic Bonding
- A metal reacts with a non-metal, metal atom loses electrons and becomes a positive ion, the non-metal atom gains electrons and becomes a negative ion.
- The oppositely charges ions are electrostatically attratced, this is ionic bonding.
- Lithium loses 1 electron to be stable
- Metal- ions stay the same
- Fluorine gains 1 electron to be stable
- Non-Metal- ions change: fluorine-->fluoride, oxygen-->oxide
