Atoms, Elements and Compounds
- Nucleus = protons and neutrons
- The charge of a proton is +1
- Elements consist of atoms with the same atomic number
- Formula - Carbon dioxide = CO2, Sodium chloride = NaCl
- 2Mg + O2 --> 2MgO
- H2SO4 + 2NaOH ---> Na2SO4 + 2H2O
Mixtures and Separation
- Compounds are formed when two or more elements combine with other atoms and have different properties and have chemical bonds, where mixtures are easily separated as they have no chemical bonds between the different parts
- The name of the pattern formed from carrying out paper chromatography is called a chromatogram
- The method used to separate an insoluble solid from a iquid is filtration
