TYPES OF NUTRITION

  • Nutrition is taking in useful substances.
  • Green plants make their own food; they use inorganic substances - carbon dioxide, water and minerals - from the air and soil.
  • Substances made by living things are said to be organic

PHOTOSYNTHESIS

  • photosynthesis= the process by which plants manufacture carbohydrates from raw materials using energy from light.
  • Chlorophyll is the pigment which makes plants look green. It is kept inside the chloroplasts of plant cells.

LEAVES

  • The epidermis cells protect the inner layers of cells in the leaf.
  • Cuticle is the waxy substance, secreted by the upper epidermis, that helps stop water evaporating from the leaf.
  • In the lower epidermis, there are small openings called stomata.
  • Guards cells do contain chloroplasts.
  • The mseophyll is the middle layers of the leaf. These cells ALL contain chloroplast.
  • Veins run through the mesophyll.
