Working Out a Scheme
- Start by writing down the formula of the starting molecule, A, and that of the target molecule, X
- One way of working out what route to take is to write down all the compounds which can be made from A and all the ways in which X can be prepared
- It's important to keep the number of steps as small as possible to maximise the yield
- Knowing how functional groups are connected is vital
