Representation of the people act 1832 

  • Gave uniform rules for voting, all those who owned property at £10 or above and £50 leaseholders 
  • Voters also had to register and vote formally 
  • Did increase electorate by double 
  • However only 9% of all adults could vote 
  • Working class and females still had no vote 

Representation of the people act, 1867 

  • Did raise electorate from 20 to 30% of adult males 
  • Did also change in urban areas, in Birmingham voters rose to 42,000 
  • Also extended the vote to farmers and lodgers who had been a resident for 12
