Fundamentally, there are 2 types of cells in the nervous system, neurons and glial cells.
Anatomy of Neurons
External features of a neuron
Cell body- Center of the neuron,also known as the soma
Cell membrane- Semipermeable membrane that encloses the neuron
Dendrites- Recieve most of the synaptic contacts from other neurons
Axon hillock- Cone shaped region at the junction between axon and cell body
Axon- The long process that projects from the cell body.
