Animal Cells - Structure and Function

  • Nucleus: controls activities of the cell 
  • Cytoplasm: in which most of the chemical reactions take place 
  • Cell Membrane: controls the passages of substances in and out of the cell
  • Mitochondria: where most energy is released during respiration 
  • Ribosomes: where protein sythesis occurs

Plant Cells contain all of the typical features of an animal cell but also contain other features which many (but not all) have:-

  • Cholorplasts: found in all green parts of the plant. They are green because they contain the green substance chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs light
