Diffusion is the net movement of particles from and area of high concentration to an area of low concentration, down a concentration gradient.

Osmosis is the net movement of particles from an area of high water potential to an area of low water potential, down a water potential gradient. 

Factors that affect diffusion: concentration gradient, higher equals faster. The thickness of the exchange surface, thinner equals faster. The surface area, larger equals faster.
