Cell membrane strucutre Biology AS

?

hope  these help i have other biology stuff up to :)

what is the cell surface membrane made up of ?

  • phospolipids
  • cholesterol- fits in the gaps between the phospolipids and increases the stability and ridigity of the cell membrane
  • proteins
  • glycoproteins ( these are carbohydrates added to proteins)
  • glycolipids ( these are carbohydrates added to lipids in this case phospolipids)

the two last ones only appear on the outer part of the membrane

the phospolipids form a bilayer where the hydrophobic tails are at the centre and the hydrophillic heads face out

you have extrinsic and intrinsic proteins  extrinsic are just in one layer of the bilayer the intrinsic…
