What is crime?

It is an offence not permitted in law for which there is a punishment.

What are the causes of crime?

Economic

  • Lack of money
  • Lack of a good education and therefore a lack of good work opportunities

Family

  • A dysfunctional family life
  • Violence in the family
  • Drug abuse in the family

Social/Environmental

  • Living in an area where there are lots of drugs around
  • Living in an area where there are gangs
  • Lack of things to do in an area - teenagers get bored and turn to crime.
