Causes of the Indian Mutiny

CAUSES

- missionaries - the influx of missionaries came. the 1813 charter act had a missionary clause allowing the missionaries to enter the bengal presidency and preach the bible and speak out against traditional practices. set up schools in 1818

- traditional practices - the practices of thagi, sati and female infanticide were banned. William sleeman campaigned and banned thagi. Wilberforce and Bentinck banned sati in 1829.

- Bentinck education policy - in 1835 made english the official language of India instead of persian which once again…
