The Eastcroft District heating sheme in Nottingham is an example of a local scale solution to energy wastage. The scheme involves burning 150,000 tonnes of waste a year in an incinerator. The steam produced is then used to heat 1000 homes in the St Ann's area, Nottingham Trent University and the Victoria shopping centre, as well generating electricity for 5000 homes. This scheme means that less waste is taken to landfill and at the same time more electricity is provided. It makes energy rather than wasting it.
