They are miscible with water when short as they are able to make hydrogen bonds they can also do this with acid molecules.
ethanoic acid is vinegar ( a liquid) and benzoic acid is a solid of white crystalsand will dissolve in hot water
a carboxylic acid will FAIL a 2,4DNP test , the bonds are of the same length
