Give an account of the role of carbohydrates including Monosaccharides, Disaccharides and polsaccharides

Monocsaccharides are made up of one sugar. The two monosaccharides are glucose and fructose. monosaccharieds are the basic carbohydrate monomers .i.e. single sugars. glucose is a hexose sugar with the formula C6H1206. Glucose and fructose have the same molecular formula but different structural formula therfore they are isomers of eachother. When Monosaccharides bond the positions of the carbons 1-4 and 1-6 are important.

Disaccharides are double sugars formed from two monosaccharide monomers. All disaccharides have a general formula c12H22011 .They are formed when two monosacchartides joined together by a condensation reaction. this is the removal of water. The bonds formed between two hexose sugars in the formation of a disaccharide is a glycocidic bond. The bond is described as a 1-4 glycocidic bond. The two disaccharides are called maltose and sucrose. Maltose is formed when two a-gl;ucose molecules are linked together via acondensation reaction formed when starch is digested.

Polysaccharides are complex
