c6 rate and extent of chemical change (paper 2)

?

Rate of Reaction

rate of reaction = how fast the reactants are changed into products

examples of slow reactions = rusting of iron, chemical weathering

examples of fast reactions = burning, explosions

Image result for gcse rate of reaction graph

BOTTOM LINE = origional reaction

SECOND LINE = faster reaction

THIRD LINE = much faster reaction

TOP LINE = faster and more reactants

steeper = faster

flat line = finished

particles must collide in order to react

factors affecting collision theory =

- frequency of collisions with particles

- amount of energy transferred

rate of reaction depends on:

- temperature

- concentration

- surface area

- catalyst

increasing the temperature

  • more collisions
  • more energy
  • particles move…
