Nucleus

·         In the atom centre

·         Contains protons and neutrons

·         Positively charged because protons(+ve) and neutron(0)

·         Almost whole mass of atom

Electrons

·         Move around nucleus

·         They have a negative charge

·         Tiny compared to nucleus but movement covers a lot of space

·         Size of orbit determines atom size

·         Virtually no mass

·         They occupy shells(energy levels) around the nucleus

The number of protons=the number of electrons so charge is always neutral. Number of neutrons isn’t fixed, but usually same as protons.

Electron shell rules:

·         Electrons
