Ions

Ions are atoms that are positively or negatively charged because they have either lost or gained electrons. They are strongly attracted to each other due to the attraction of opposite charges.

Noble Gases do not form ions because they are inner (or unreactive).

When an atom gains or loses an electron it becomes ionised and form a compound with an oppositely charged ion.
