Acids and Bases

Acids and bases are the opposite of each other

When reacted with each other they neutralise. The reaction is called neutralisation and is exothermic.

Examples: nitric, hydrochloric, sulfuric

These are metal hydroxides and metal oxides

Examples: iron oxide, copper oxide

Sometimes can dissolve in water. These bases are called alkalis.

pH scale

Use universal indicator to relate the solution to the pH scale as you can match the colour

Neutral - pH of 7 - water
