Polymers
Different polymers have different properties. They relate to the structure of the polymer and means they have lots of uses.
POLYETHENE:
- Light, flexible, easily moulded, can be printed on
- used to make plastic bags (flexible and light)
- used to makes containers (easily moulded)
POLYSTYRENE:
- Light, poor conductor of heat
- used for insulation (poor conductor of heat)
POLYESTER
- Lightweight, waterproof, tough, can be coloured
- Used for clothing (can be made into fibres)
- Used for bottles (lightweight and waterproof)
Structure of plastics - HT
Polymers like PVC are made of tangled, long chain molecules
The atoms are held together with STRONG COVALENT BONDS
