Alkenes can be used to make polymers.Polymers are very large molecules made when many smaller molecules join together, end-to-end.The smaller molecules are called monomers.Alkenes are very good at joining together and when they do so without producing another substance it is polymerisation.Polymerisation requires a catalyst and high temperature.Because alkenes are unsaturated polymerisation involves the reaction of many unsaturated monomer molecules.
