Pollen formation:
- diplod pollen grains undergo meiosis to from haploid cells
- each cell develops into a pollen grain which has a thin inner wall (an intine) and a thick outer wall (an exine)
- when the pollen grain is ripe, the outer laters of he anther dry out and curl away to expose the pollen grain
Female gamete formation:
- the megaspore mother cell divides mitotically to produce a row of 2 haploid cells (megapsores)
- 3 megapsores degenerate, 1 grows
- enalrged one developes into a mature embryo sac
