Pollen formation:

  • diplod pollen grains undergo meiosis to from haploid cells
  • each cell develops into a pollen grain which has a thin inner wall (an intine) and a thick outer wall (an exine)
  • when the pollen grain is ripe, the outer laters of he anther dry out and curl away to expose the pollen grain

  • the megaspore mother cell divides mitotically to produce a row of 2 haploid cells (megapsores)
  • 3 megapsores degenerate, 1 grows
