37 samples were obtained from 33 countries located on 6 continents and 5 islands with a total number of participants being 10,047.
The samples range in mean age from 16.96 to 28.70 with an overall mean age of 23.05. Sample sizes vary from a low of 55 to highs of 500.
Sampling techniques to identify participants varied across the different countries, for example:
- In Estonia, questionnaires were answered by couples applying for a marriage licence and 200 high school students, making it an opportunity sample.
- In West Germany, the sample was selected through newspaper ads, making it a volunteer sample.
The research data was collected by native residents of each country and mailed to the US analysis.
