Dunkirk 26th May 1940 – 4th June 1940

Following the German attack on Belgium and Holland Lord Gort realised the BEF needed to retreat to Dunkirk in Northern France and escape to Britain before any more British soldiers were killed. 

  •  Evacuation of British, French and Belgian troops lasted for 9 days. The codename for the evacuation was ‘Operation Dynamo’.
